Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh — As preparations intensify for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government is setting an unprecedented benchmark by integrating sustainable practices and cutting-edge technology into this globally renowned spiritual gathering. Scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, the event is expected to attract an estimated 400 million pilgrims and visitors, reaffirming its status as one of the largest congregations in human history.

Eco-Friendly Infrastructure

In a bid to make the event environmentally responsible, the state government has sanctioned ₹7,500 crores for 384 sustainable development projects. Among these initiatives is the planting of 1.5 lakh saplings across the event area to offset carbon emissions and improve air quality. Additionally, eco-friendly sanitation units are being installed, supported by advanced waste management systems to ensure cleanliness throughout the Mela grounds.

“We aim to strike a balance between tradition and sustainability, preserving the sanctity of the Kumbh while adopting practices that respect our environment,” said a senior official from the Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department.

Tech-Enabled Crowd Management

To manage the massive influx of pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh Police Department has deployed AI-powered crowd monitoring systems. These tools will provide real-time updates on crowd density and movements, enabling authorities to take swift action to avoid overcrowding. The integration of drones and surveillance cameras further enhances security and ensures smooth operations.

Kumbh Sah’AI’yak Chatbot: A Pilgrim’s Virtual Guide

Innovating the pilgrim experience, the state has launched the ‘Kumbh Sah’AI’yak’ chatbot, a virtual assistant available via WhatsApp and the official Maha Kumbh mobile app. This AI-powered guide offers real-time information on festival schedules, travel routes, accommodation, and cultural events in multiple Indian languages. Pilgrims can now navigate the grand event with ease, making it more inclusive and accessible than ever before.

Focus on Sanitation and Hygiene

Sanitation remains a critical focus area for the Mela, with one sanitation worker assigned to every 10 toilets, supported by supervisory teams to ensure high standards of hygiene. Modern waste segregation units are being installed to recycle biodegradable waste efficiently, further aligning the event with sustainable goals.

A Global Gathering

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is not only a celebration of spirituality but also a stage for global cultural exchange. Delegations from countries like France, the United States, and Israel are expected to participate, showcasing the universal appeal of this historic event. The Ministry of Culture has emphasized that the Kumbh serves as a bridge between India’s spiritual heritage and the world’s cultural curiosity.

A Commitment to the Future

With these innovative and sustainable measures, Prayagraj is setting a global example of how tradition can coexist with modernity. The Maha Kumbh 2025 promises to be a harmonious blend of spirituality, sustainability, and smart technology, ensuring that the legacy of this grand event continues for generations to come.
